2013 Game Highlights
State Championships - May 10
It was a warm sunny day when the Eagles competed at Washington College for the state championships. After losing the first game to Elkton, the Eagles came back to win two games to be in medal contention. Humorously, one of the teams the Eagles faced was North East High School from North East Maryland. The refree had to identify each team, not be name, but by uniform color. Finally, during the playoff game to secure the bronze medal, the Eagles were tied 6-6 when the buzzer sounded. A sudden death frame was played to determine the winner. However, the game was not decided until the final bocce was rolled. The Eagles missed scoring by a mere two inches and had to settle for a fourth place ribbon. A close end to a very memorable season!
County Finals - April 25
Despite a beautiful afternoon, the Eagles lost a close game to Arundel 11-12 in the second round. A friendly consolation match was played against Meade High. Everyone on both teams exhibited good sportsmanship.
Northeast vs Arundel - April 24
The Eagles bocce team played an away match vs. the Arundel Wildcats. After easily winning the first game, the Eagles lost the second during a final sudden death round. This game was marred due to a scoring error in Arundel’s favor. But despite losing the game, the Eagles not only were gracious and demonstrated good sportsmanship but rallied back to win the third game and the match. Our second win!
Northeast vs. Old Mill - April 19
This rescheduled match was played in our own cafeteria. It was another very close contest. However, the Eagles were not able to come back with enough energy to pull off a win in the last game. Old Mill's coach complemented the Eagles on their positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
Northeast vs. Meade HS- April 16
Our first win and a beautiful spring day! The Eagles won two games in a row. Game #1 was easily completed with a score of 8-3. Then despite pressure from the Meade team, the Eagles came back and won with a score of 6-5 for the game and match. Go Eagles!
Northeast vs. Annapolis HS-  Tuesday, April 9
This was a 'nailbiter' match. At the start, both teams each won a close-scoring game. During the third and final game, the score was tied at 4 each with only four minutes remaining; and Annapolis went ahead in the next two frames to defeat Northeast with a score of 8-4 and won the match.
However, Coach Swann received an email the following morning from the Annapolis coach thanking the Eagles for their hospitality and singling out team captain Emma Graybill as helpful and polite in clarifying a point of rule. Despite a loss, the Eagles continue to be recognized for their sportsmanship and congeniality at each home event!
Northeast vs. North County - April 5
Despite winning the first game with a score of 8-5, North County went on to win the next two games and defeated Northeast in the match. The coaches were pleased with the great sportsmanship and teamwork displayed by both teams. Look for game scores in the Maryland Gazette.
